Liftrava vs Fitbod
Fitbod pioneered the generated workout. Here’s an honest comparison — including the cases where a generator really is the right tool.
| Liftrava | Fitbod | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Tracker fully free; Pro $4.99/mo · $29.99/yr · $79.99 lifetime | Subscription only — around $15.99/mo or $95.99/yr, short trial |
| Free tier | Free forever — unlimited logging, plans, analytics | None — a few trial workouts |
| Next-workout logic | Transparent targets — every suggestion shows its reason, computed from your log; overridable | Proprietary generator — powerful but opaque; suggestions sometimes questioned by experienced lifters |
| Your own program | Plan-first — 5×5, PPL, PHUL or fully custom; exercises never rotate without you | Generator-first; following a fixed published program is awkward |
| Muscle analytics | 3D coverage map with volume landmarks (MEV/MAV/MRV) | 2D muscle heatmap + recovery model |
| Equipment awareness | Basic (equipment tags per exercise) | Excellent — gym profiles, travel mode, auto-substitution |
| Platforms | Any browser, fully offline; installable PWA | Native iOS/Android, strong Apple Watch app |

Where Fitbod is better
If you walk into a different hotel gym every week and want a credible workout generated from whatever equipment is in front of you, Fitbod is genuinely the best tool for that job. Its equipment profiles, exercise substitution and Apple Watch app are polished in a way that takes years.
Where Liftrava is better
Trust, control, and price.Liftrava never asks you to accept a number you can’t interrogate: every target comes with its reasoning printed next to it, computed from your own recent sets — and you can override anything mid-set. You follow the program you chose, not a rotation you didn’t ask for. And the entire tracker is free, where Fitbod costs ~$96/year before you know whether you’ll stick with it.
Switching takes one tap
Liftrava imports workout-history CSVs (Strong, Hevy, Jefit and similar formats) from Settings → “Import history” — your records and strength trends carry over instead of starting from zero.
Targets you can actually trust.
Every suggestion shows its why, computed from your log — free, no install, works offline in the gym.
